OST Wins FAA Spectrum Engineering Services Contract
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 22, 2007 -- Optimal Solutions and Technologies (OST, Inc.), a CMMI Level 3 externally appraised information technology services provider, announced that the company has been awarded an engineering support contract from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). OST will assist in planning and managing the radio spectrum used by FAA National Airspace System (NAS) equipment providing Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) products and services to aviation. FAA's Office of Spectrum Engineering Services coordinates with national and international government agencies and operates the Automated Frequency Management (AFM) System to plan and engineer frequencies for NAS equipment. This enterprise-engineering tool facilitates processing frequency assignments via the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for the safe operations and service delivery of NAS spectrum engineering services and support.
Major task areas under the five-year contract, which extends through September 2011 and is valued at $6.5M if all options are exercised, include automation tools support comprising planning, engineering modeling development, enhancement, maintenance, and implementation, as well as AFM application upgrades, improvements and deployment, enterprise application integration, continuity of spectrum engineering operations, and support for national and international planning and studies.
OST has supported the FAA with Spectrum Management software and hardware related development and maintenance services for over six years. Vijay Narula, CEO, OST, expressed delight with the opportunity to continue supporting the FAA in this critical area. “We have engineering expertise in this field and will assist FAA in meeting its mission critical spectrum engineering and management responsibilities. OST will provide the quickest possible path to reliable improvements in both automation and service support.”
Ajay Madan, OST's COO, echoed Narula's enthusiasm for supporting and advancing the FAA mission. “We understand FAA's vision for spectrum management automation. We can provide the strategic and operational support needed to help advance FAA's Spectrum Engineering Services.
OST's deep interest and commitment to aviation is evidenced by the range of services they provide to the industry including support for Radio Frequency Interfaces (RFIs), and aviation related Network Operations Control support. Additionally, OST is building an aviation safety thesaurus to enhance automatic text mining of FAA National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) and Aviation Safety Reporting system (ASRS) safety reports.
