Albuquerque, NM, January 2020: Dr. Indu Singh and Mr. Steven Pergament from OST, Inc. (OST) attended the New Mexico 2020 Future City Competition and served as judges. Future City is a project-based learning program that invites students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to conceptualize, research, design, and build cities of the future. The state chapter of the competition was held at the University of New Mexico (UNM) on January 11. More than 350 students from throughout New Mexico gathered to present their projects, based on the theme of Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow.
Professor Geraldine Forbes Isais (Dean of the UNM School of Architecture and Planning) said, “Providing New Mexico students with this kind of opportunity opens their eyes to wider possibilities.” Participants included 49% female students, 30% minority students, and 33% students from low socioeconomic schools.
OST is proud to support the competition. The winning students received trips to Washington, DC on Presidents Day to compete in the finals. These projects represented four months of research, design, and building efforts. One school representative stated, “Thank you for all of the support, it was a great experience. I was pleased with how respectful the judges were and how they remained positive and curious throughout judging. They made the students feel very important. Thank you so much.”
