At OST, our Center of Engineering and Innovation (CoEI) is a solutions lab designed for engineering complex solutions in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, smart networks, machine learning, and smart initiatives. This group of engineers and subject matter experts unites engineering, R&D, S&T, and data analytics to solve customers’ complex business and technology problems. OST CoEI also serves as a knowledge center and hub for strategic partnerships with leading vendors and service providers and develops joint solutions on the application of emerging technologies.

Data Science
Data science is the process of preparing data for analysis and making it usable for answering questions and uncovering patterns. Within the government, data science is used to predict critical information relating to fraud detection, crime data, environmental protection, financial markets, health programs, and more. OST’s data scientists use a variety of scientific methods, processes, and systems to extract knowledge and actionable insights from meaningless, “noisy” data helping our customers at all levels make better data-driven decisions.
Smart Infrastructure
As municipalities, enterprises, universities, and military branches seek to achieve sustainable and efficient progress, many are turning to smart infrastructure. By digitally enhancing physical assets, such as airports, buildings, roads, and lighting, smart infrastructure adds value by enabling stakeholders to use assets more intelligently and effectively, adding capacity without needing new-build solutions. OST connects people, processes, data, and the environment and leverages big data and analytics, IoT, cloud computing, and more to help customers move towards a smarter more viable future.
AI/ML & Predictive Analytics
OST marries the efficiencies of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to create real-time situational awareness and better meet customer needs now and in the future. By combining these disciplines, we help government agencies analyze and process large amounts of data to identify future behaviors, trends, and outcomes and facilitate more informed decision making, leading to a sustained culture of open and continuous innovation. Using predictive analytics, OST can help customers forecast future outcomes based on new and historical data and various statistical techniques.
PROGRAM
Stafford County Smart Town Center
Together with the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), OST is the lead systems integrator for the development of a “smart” town center known as Downtown Stafford, a multi-generational community development project. Downtown Stafford is planned as a “place” to create a “community identity” for all of Stafford County.
To help realize this Smart City Testbed, OST is leveraging our smart technology experience in waste management, smart poles, intelligent traffic management, CCTV/video analytics, smart parking, and energy management to create a hub of integrated smart technologies that promote efficiency, public safety, and sustainability, while saving energy and reducing costs. In partnership with Verizon and Amazon Web Services, we are prototyping a state-of-the-art data analytics and IoT platform that includes cloud computing. The goal of this work is to create a community that addresses the total human experience and improves overall quality of life while utilizing today’s emerging technologies such as 5G, drones, data analytics, and AI/ML to create effective solutions.
